Mực tươi kết hợp cùng bông thiên lý giòn ngọt thật hợp vị. Món ăn dân dã nhưng vẫn luôn luôn quyến rũ nhờ có mùi thơm ngát đặc trưng của bông thiên lý.
Mực đem bóc bỏ da, bóc bỏ mai và ruột mực. Sau khi làm sạch thì thái mực thành những miếng vừa ăn. Ướp mực với 1 muỗng cà phê hạt nêm và 1/2 chỗ gừng, hành và tỏi băm nhỏ tỏng khoảng 10 phút.
Hoa thiên lý nhặt rửa sạch, để ráo nước.
Phi thơm hành tím, gừng và tỏi băm nhỏ với 2 muỗng canh dầu ăn rồi cho mực vào xào. Đảo đều cho đến khi miếng mực cong lại là mực đã chín tới.
Cho hoa thiên lý vào, nêm thêm chút dầu hào, gia vị rồi đảo đều cho tới khi hoa thiên lý tái đi thì thả hành lá và rau mùi cắt nhỏ vào. Nêm 2 muỗng cà phê hạt nêm vào, đảo đều cho thấm rồi tắt bếp.
Cho món mực xào hoa thiên lý ra đĩa, rắc thêm tiêu cho món ăn thêm dậy mùi thơm là được.
